A joint operation conducted by the Sonamura Sub-divisional Food Department, Sub-divisional Administration, and Melaghar Municipal Council on August 05 at the Melaghar Market in Sepahijala District has led to the confiscation of a large quantity of expired food items and other goods. The operation also resulted in the collection of nearly Rs 30,000 in fines.
The Sonamura Sub-divisional Administration in collaboration with officials from relevant departments has been carrying out regular inspections in various markets across the Sub-division. These inspections are aim to ensure that consumers have access to quality products and to prevent the sale of adulterated goods.
Similarly, today the administrative team led by Additional Sub-divisional Magistrate Mahendra Kambe Chakma conducted a thorough inspection of Melaghar Market. The team included officials from the Sub-divisional Food Department and the Executive Officer of Melaghar Municipal Council among others.
The primary focus of the day’s operation was Ananda Bazaar area in Melaghar where nearly every shop underwent inspection. The raid resulted in the seizure of expired food items, plastic bags, and various other non-compliant goods. Shop owners found operating without valid trade licenses were also fined.
Following the operation Executive Officer of Melaghar Municipal Council Anish Debnath provided details about the day’s operation. He emphasized the administration’s commitment to maintaining food safety standards and ensuring compliance with local regulations.
This initiative is part of the Administration’s ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and promote fair trade practices in local markets. The authorities have warned that similar operations will continue in the future to maintain the quality and safety of goods sold in the area.
