A powerful explosion, believed to be from an air conditioner unit, ripped through the residence of Dr. Biswajit Sutradhar and his wife Rupa Sutradhar late night on Thursday causing significant damage and injuring the couple. The incident occurred opposite the Police Headquarters at Agartala Fire Brigade Chowmuhani.
According to eyewitnesses, the blast was powerful enough to collapse interior and exterior walls of the two-story building. The couple, who were sleeping on the second floor at the time, fell to the ground floor amid the debris.
Emergency services, including the Fire Brigade, quickly responded to the scene. The injured couple was rescued and rushed to GB Hospital. While Dr. Sutradhar’s condition is reported to be stable, his wife Rupa remains under treatment for serious injuries.
Dr. Sutradhar, told reporters, “We were asleep when it happened. There was a loud bang, possibly from the AC unit, and then everything collapsed.”
Preliminary investigations indicate that the explosion may have originated from an air conditioning unit in the bedroom. However, officials are cautious about drawing conclusions at this early stage.
Oddly, a caretaker present on the first floor to look after Dr. Sutradhar’s mother and uncle escaped unharmed, adding to the intrigue surrounding the incident.
