Teliamura in Tripura’s Khowai district faces a severe law and order crisis with two brutal murders that took place within 24 hours.
On Thursday night a truck driver was killed near the Teliamura police station gate. The following night forest worker Kinkar Debnath (40) was found dead under mysterious circumstances.
Debnath an employee at the Champaknagar Gate Forest Department office received an unknown call around 10:20 PM. He left his Shishu Bihar Chowmuhani home promising a quick return. When he didn’t come back his family reported him missing at 2 AM.
Early Friday Debnath’s body was discovered near Karilong Petrol Pump on the Assam-Agartala National Highway with a towel around his neck. District Superintendent of Police Ramesh Kumar Yadav and a forensic team arrived to investigate.
Yadav stated “The body will be returned after post-mortem. We’re investigating all angles including local terrorist involvement.”
Debnath’s family believes it was a planned murder. A family member alleged “He was lured out and killed according to a plan. We demand strict punishment for the killers.”
The Teliamura police face criticism for failing to prevent these crimes. A local resident said “The police have failed to maintain law and order. People are living in constant fear.”
