The decomposed body of a 53-year-old man was found in his locked room on Monday night at the Office Tila 14 Kani area under Khowai district in Tripura. Police identified the deceased as Tarun Dhar, a local resident who had been living alone.

According to local sources Dhar had been suffering from neurological problems for a long period of time. His wife and daughter were residing in Agartala for their daughter’s education leaving Dhar to manage on his own. Reports indicate that he had lost most of his mobility and remained confined to his room relying on others for food.
It was learned that a housemaid employed to care for Dhar reported attempting to clean his house on July 12, 13 and 14 but received no response when calling out to him. After two days of silence concerned neighbours investigated. Finding the doors locked, they used a bamboo pole to push the door open and saw Dhar’s body lying on the floor.
As soon as the local Police were informed, they arrived and cut the lock on the outer grille to access the room. They found Dhar’s body in a state of decomposition. Authorities estimate he had been dead for two to three days prior to discovery.
Meanwhile, the police officials sent it to the Khowai District Hospital for post-mortem and the post-mortem examination revealed Dhar’s stomach was empty indicating he may have gone without food for several days before his death. Police speculate that in his weakened state Dhar may have fallen while attempting to rise from his sofa possibly in search of food.
Later the body was handed over to the family on Tuesday morning after initial investigations. Police have registered the case as an unnatural death and investigations are ongoing.
