
ripura is set to hold its three-tier panchayat elections on August 8 with extensive preparations underway to ensure a smooth and peaceful voting process.
Poll duty officials across the state including those in the Ambassa Block, Jubarajnagar RD Block, Kalacherra RD Block, Kathalia RD Block, Bishalgarh RD Block, Boxanagar RD Block and Khowai RD Block have departed for their respective polling stations today under tight security. The voting is scheduled to begin at 7 AM tomorrow and continue until 5 PM.
While speaking with the media persons the Returning Officer of Ambassa Block Munmun Debbarma reported that all necessary arrangements have been made.
“Poll workers are expected to reach their destinations on time and have been provided with ballot papers and other essential materials,” she stated.
Debbarma also appealed for a peaceful election process, noting that no untoward incidents have been reported so far.
Speaking on the security measurements the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Ambassa Sub-division Nirupam Datta confirmed that strict security protocols are in place, particularly at polling booths. “We’ve implemented foolproof security arrangements to ensure a safe voting environment,” Datta said.
Similarly, the Returning Officer Jubarajnagar RD Block reported that 98 polling stations are ready in his jurisdiction. In the Kalcherra RD Block, Block Officer Amit Chanda stated that 84 polling stations have been set up, with poll workers for 83 stations already en route to their assigned locations.
Adding to the workforce, government employees from Dharmanagar, Panisagar, and Kanchanpur in the North district have been deployed to assist with election duties.
Meanwhile, in the Kathalia RD Block under Sonamura Sub-division preparations are in full swing for tomorrow’s panchayat elections. The block will see voting across 84 polling centres in 21 panchayats, an increase from 17 panchayats in the previous election.
While speaking with the reporters the Officer-in-Charge of Jatrapur Police Station Subrata Debnath reported that as many as 352 security personnel have been deployed to ensure peaceful voting.
“We have clearly explained the rules and procedures to everyone at the block premises, I’ve instructed all personnel to contact me immediately if any problems arise. Our primary focus is to maintain good relations with the polling officers while carrying out our duties effectively.” Debnath stated.
On the other hand, the Boxanagar RD Block presents an interesting scenario. Out of its 21 panchayats, the BJP candidate for the 16th Zila Parishad seat has won unopposed. The remaining 14 panchayat areas will see active voting across 56 polling stations.
In the Bishalgarh RD Block voting will take place for 3 Zila Parishad seats, 2 Panchayat Samiti seats and 15 Gram Panchayat seats.
Returning Officer of the Bishalgarh RD Block Nantu Deb informed that voting will occur at 119 polling stations.
“The administration has taken strict security measures to ensure a peaceful voting process. All officials responsible for conducting the polls have left our office with all necessary voting materials, heading towards their respective polling centres.” Deb explained.
In Tripura’s three-tier panchayat system, a total of 6,889 seats are there including Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis and Zila Parishads and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has already won 4,805 seats uncontested.
Voting will take place for the remaining 2,084 seats tomorrow and results will be announced on August 12.
