Officials of the Kailashahar Municipal Council were attacked while trying to reclaim encroached land. A group of people who had illegally occupied Municipal Council land and constructed houses were resisting the eviction.
On Thursday, a team of three Municipal Council officials accompanied by the police went to reclaim the land. When the officials tried to evict the encroachers a group of men and women resisted.
Two individuals, Nirmal Malakar and Subodh Malakar, initially engaged in a verbal altercation with the officials and later attempted to assault the DCM Biswajit Das with a dao. The official narrowly escaped the attack. Subodh assisted Nirmal in the assault.
The three Municipal Council officials involved in the eviction drive were DCM Someswar Banik, Biswajit Das, and Sanjit Debbarma. The incident took place on Thursday afternoon. Despite the attack, the administration was eventually able to reclaim the encroached land.
A case has been filed against Nirmal Malakar and Subodh Malakar for attempting to murder government officials. While Subodh has been arrested, Nirmal is still absconding. The incident has caused a stir in Kailashahar.
