Ambassa Police Station officials seized a substantial amount of cannabis from a small passenger vehicle at the Railway Station Chowmuhani near Ambassa Town Hall on Friday. The vehicle bearing registration number TR-02BS-0411 was intercepted while transporting the illicit substance.
While speaking with the media persons Ambassa Police Station Officer-in-Charge Gurupada Debnath revealed that approximately 140 kg of cannabis packed in 14 packets was recovered. The estimated market value of the seized drugs is around Rs 14 lakh. The vehicle, according to the OC, was en route from Agartala to Chuaraibari.

While the state is gearing up for the three-tier panchayat elections drug traffickers are taking advantage of the situation to smuggle narcotics. Even as the police administration is busy with election-related duties drug traffickers are actively involved in their illicit trade.
However, the Ambassa Police Station staff, while being engaged in election duties, have maintained a vigilant watch to prevent drug trafficking. As a result they have successfully seized cannabis three times in the last two weeks. In total, the police have confiscated approximately 303.6 kg of cannabis during this period.
Meanwhile, the police have registered a case under the NDPS Act and will produce the arrested drug trafficker in court on August 3. The people of Ambassa are elated with the success of the anti-narcotics campaign by the Ambassa Police Station.
Some concerned citizens are questioning when the police will be able to identify and apprehend the masterminds behind these drug trafficking operations. It is believed that if the police can nab the kingpins involved in the drug trade, it would go a long way in curbing the menace of drug trafficking in Ambassa.
