Tripura Police Arrest Two Smugglers With Yaba Tablets Worth Rs 27 Lakh

The Kadamtala Police Station officials has successfully conducted an anti-drug operation near the Indo-Bangladesh border. Two individuals including a woman were arrested for smuggling Yaba tablets in the Brajendranagar area under Kadamtala Block in North Tripura District.

It was learned that acting on secret information, the Officer-in-Charge of Kadamtala Police Station Jayanta Debnath led a team to set up a trap at the Tri Junction in Brajendranagar around 8:30 PM on Wednesday. The operation resulted in the interception of a motorcycle rider, identified as Gopal Nath.

Upon searching Nath’s vehicle the police recovered packets of Yaba tablets. Further investigation led to the recovery of 5,502 Yaba tablets with an estimated market value of approximately Rs 27.5 lakhs, according to North Tripura District Superintendent of Police Bhanupad Chakraborty.

During interrogation, Gopal Nath revealed that he had purchased the tablets from a woman named Arati Das. Following this lead, the police also arrested Das and seized the motorcycle bearing registration number TR05-8296.

The Officer-in-Charge stated that a case has been filed against both suspects under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act with case number 49/24. The accused are scheduled to be presented before the Dharmanagar court on Thursday.
