CPI(M) Stages Protest Against Union Budget in Tripura
Members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) held a protest march and rally on Thursday against the recently announced union budget for 2024-25. Despite heavy monsoon rains party members took to the streets of Belonia denouncing what they termed an “anti-people” budget.
The demonstration, organized by the CPI(M) Belonia Sub-divisional Committee, began at the party’s local office and proceeded through the town, culminating in a rally at Belonia.
In a symbolic gesture of disapproval, party members burned a copy of the central budget at the start of the protest meeting. CPI(M) Belonia Sub-divisional Secretary Tapash Datta addressed the gathering criticizing the budget as favoring wealthy corporates at the expense of the poor and marginalized.
“This budget shows that the government has learned nothing from the recent Lok Sabha elections,” Datta declared. He accused the central government of failing to allocate sufficient funds for crucial programs such as MGNREGA and schemes for differently-abled individuals.
Datta also raised concerns about the budget’s impact on India’s federal structure calling it “unconstitutional and undemocratic.” He urged citizens from all sections of society to join the protest against the central government’s economic policies.
The event saw participation from several key CPI(M) figures including South District Secretary Basudeb Majumdar, a member of the CPI(M) Tripura State Committee Dipankar Sen and a CPI(M) MLA Ashok Mitra.
