Tripura Police have arrested Haowlam Manga (36), the prime suspect who absconded in connection with the June 30th heroin seizure case registered under number 7/2024 at Bagbassa Police Station.
Following a secret information from sources regarding Manga’s hideout in Mizoram a special team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Jeremy Darlong coordinated with Mizoram State Police to apprehend him from Champhai area in Mizoram.
The arrested accused will be brought to Dharmanagar and presented in court on Tuesday, informed North Tripura District Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty.
While Manga’s interrogation is expected to reveal details about the smuggling network, the case has taken a startling turn with allegations against two Tripura Police constables – Sidam Das and Santosh Shil. Their unexplained wealth and assets have triggered suspicion about their potential involvement in the drug trade.
Public murmurings suggest these constables might be aiding the movement of narcotics and have close ties to drug traffickers. Constable Das’s frequent use of multiple Mahindra Thar jeeps has further fueled speculation. Additionally, the Thar vehicle confiscated during a recent yaba tablet raid was registered under the name of Jhumpa Biswas, wife of Constable Santosh Shil.
