Tripura Police Arrest Two Women With Brown Sugar Worth Rs 15 lakh

The Sonamura Police Station officials in Tripura arrested three women on Monday night and seized 400 grams of brown sugar which was valued at Rs 15 lakh from their possession.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Fuljan Begum from Durgapur under Sonamura Sub-division, Nahida Akhtar from Tarapukur under Dhanpur Assembly Constituency, and Mamata Khatun from Durlabh Narayan under Sonamura Sub-division. They were apprehended while traveling from Agartala towards Sonamura in a passenger vehicle.

It was learned that the police received secret information from their sources about the women’s activities and following the information police officials promptly started checking every vehicles passed through the naka point near the Melaghar Police Station.

As the women’s vehicle approached near the checkpoint they disembarked a short distance beforehand after suspecting police presence. However, acting swiftly on the inputs the police team pursued and apprehended them.

During a subsequent search officers recovered the brown sugar cleverly concealed inside the 34 soap boxes hidden beneath their burqas.

While speaking with the media persons Officer-In-Charge of Melaghar Police Station Debasish Saha said, “We were being informed about the movement of these women involved in drug trafficking. Our team acted promptly and intercepted them. We found around 400 grams of brown sugar with an estimated value of Rs 15 lakh meticulously concealed beneath their burqas.”
