Tripura: Step-father Assaults His Wife and Step-daughter
A family dispute turned violent at the Rajib Colony area of Charilam under Sepahijala District in Tripura leading to the attack of a mother and daughter by the step-father who later attempted to take his own life.
According to the neighbours the step-father identified as Sajal Nama who is a regular drug addict attacked his wife Radharani Sarkar and her daughter Susmita Sarkar during a heated argument at their home around 1:30 pm today. Nama in his intoxicated state assaulted the two women with a sharp weapon injuring them severely.
Seeing her mother under attack her daughter Susmita tried to intervene and save her but she too was injured in the process. Nama then attempted to slit his own throat with the same weapon but the timely intervention of the local residents and the fire service department saved the lives of all three.
“Nama is a habitual offender and often turns violent under the influence of drugs. Today, he attacked his wife and step-daughter during one of his usual outbursts,” said a local resident.
Meanwhile, after being informed by the locals the Fire Service personnel immediately rushed to the spot and rescued the injured. All three were then brought to the Bishalgarh Sub-divisional Hospital for medical attention.
