Tripura: School Students Take Road Repair into Their Own Hands in Ambassa Sub-division

In a remarkable display of civic responsibility, students from Chandraipara Higher Secondary School have taken the initiative to repair a severely damaged road in Ward No. 10 of Ambassa Municipal Council.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of the school began road repair work on August 4, following months of neglect by local authorities. The road, which serves as a crucial route for students and residents alike, had fallen into a state of disrepair, causing numerous accidents and daily hardships.

“We’ve been facing difficulties for a long time, large potholes made it dangerous for us to even reach school. When one of our classmates suffered a head injury in an accident last week, we decided enough was enough.” said Rahul Das, an NSS volunteer.

Despite repeated appeals to the municipal authorities, no action had been taken to address the road’s deteriorating condition. Swapan Nama, the teacher in charge of the NSS unit told the reporters, “The students’ safety is our primary concern. When we saw that official channels were not responding, we decided to take matters into our own hands.”

Local residents have praised the students’ efforts. “It’s inspiring to see these young people step up where adults have failed,” said Priya Deb, a shopkeeper whose business has been affected by the poor road conditions.
