Tripura Pradesh Congress Demands Rehabilitation For Street Vendors at Udaipur

The Gomati District Congress Committee staged a protest march and sit-in demonstration today in front of the Udaipur Municipal Council calling for the rehabilitation of street vendors in the city. The protest which began at noon highlighted the ongoing conflict between local authorities and street vendors operating on the city’s footpaths.

Led by District Congress President Titan Pal the march commenced from the party’s office and wound through the main streets of Udaipur city before concluding with a sit-in protest in front of the Udaipur Municipal Council building. Leaders and workers from the Youth Congress and Block Congress joined the demonstration showing a united front on the issue.

While speaking with the to reporters Pal criticized the municipal council’s approach to managing street vendors. “The council periodically uses bulldozers to evict hawkers from the city center but they have failed to provide any permanent solution,” he said. Pal demanded that the authorities develop a sustainable plan for the street vendors warning of “strong protests” if forced evictions continue.

The Congress leader also issued an ultimatum to the municipal council stating, “If they don’t take appropriate measures they will have to take responsibility for the livelihoods of these footpath hawkers.”
