A father and son were severely injured after being brutally attacked by two alleged international smugglers at the Radhanagar area under the Madhupur Police Station in Tripura on July 30.

The victims has been identified as Haripada Laskar and his son Rajesh Laskar were allegedly targeted by Anjan Das and Rajib Das both known to be involved in human trafficking and other illicit activities.

According to local sources, the accused who are reportedly close relatives have been operating a lucrative smuggling racket involving Heroin, Phensedyl, Ganja and even Hilsa fish. Their criminal empire suffered a setback recently when the Border Security Force (BSF) intercepted a consignment of heroin and fish worth crores of rupees.

Blaming the father-son for the seizure the accused allegedly launched a violent attack on them. The victims sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Madhupur Primary Health Center. A complaint was subsequently lodged at the Madhupur Police Station.

Meanwhile, the Local residents who intervened to rescue the victims described the accused as ‘gangsters’ with a history of terrorizing the area. It is alleged that one of the accused has a relative in the state police providing them with immunity from law enforcement.

Despite the severity of the incident efforts by local influential persons to mediate the matter have so far been unsuccessful. The victims and the villagers are now demanding stringent action against the accused accusing them of operating with impunity.
