Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress to Join Nationwide Women’s Quota Implementation Protest
The State President of Tripura Pradesh Congress Sarbani Ghosh Chakraborty on Thursday announced that the All India Mahila Congress is set to stage a protest outside the Parliament on July 29 demanding the implementation of the long-pending Women’s Reservation Bill.
The President of the All India Mahila Congress Alka Lamba declared the “Gherao” of the Parliament building to press for the immediate enactment of the bill which promises 33% reservation for women in legislative bodies.
While speaking with the media persons Chakraborty said, “Despite the NDA government’s promises, the Women’s Reservation Bill remains unimplemented and we want this reservation system in place before the upcoming state elections to ensure women’s adequate representation.”
Chakraborty also criticized the recent Union Budget stating it failed to address crucial issues of women’s empowerment and safety. “The Finance Minister’s budget speech made no mention of initiatives for women’s security or empowerment,” she added.
