The Ganda Twisa Sub-division in Tripura’s Dhalai district remains on edge as two shops were consumed by fire late Tuesday night, barely a day after a high-profile BJP delegation visited the area. This incident marks a continuation of unrest that began following the death of Parameshwar Reang at Agartala’s GB Hospital on Saturday, stemming from a fight at a local ‘Ananda Mela’ event.

The recent conflagration, estimated to have caused losses of approximately Rs 27 lakh, adds to the community’s woes. Just days earlier, the area witnessed widespread destruction that disrupted daily life and forced the postponement of multiple wedding ceremonies.

Minister Tinku Roy, who led the four-member BJP delegation on Monday, described the situation as dire. “The proletariat is now on the streets,” Roy stated, emphasizing the government’s commitment to swift action. “On the Chief Minister’s directive, we’re working to understand the people’s plight and expedite compensation.”

Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha has ordered the immediate disbursement of 25 percent of the promised compensation within 48 hours. Minister Roy confirmed that district and revenue officials have already initiated the process, while urging residents to maintain calm.

Despite these assurances, tension persists. Fire department officials reported challenges in combating the latest blaze due to water scarcity, highlighting infrastructure concerns in the area.

Dhalai District Magistrate Saju Vaheed A attempted to quell rumors, stating that the most recent fire resulted from an electrical short circuit. “The situation is now under control,” he assured, cautioning against the spread of misinformation on social media platforms.

Local authorities have heightened security measures, with increased police patrols and warnings against unauthorized gatherings. However, residents continue to express anxiety over their safety and livelihoods.
