One of the top referral hospitals in Tripura, GBP Hospital located in the state capital Agartala is facing severe criticism following a tragic incident of alleged medical negligence as Supriya Das, a new mother from Moharcherra in Teliamura Sub-division of Khowai district has died just hours after giving birth on Monday sparking outrage and protests

It was learned that Das was admitted on Sunday and delivered her baby successfully. However, her family claims that despite her severe pain and repeated calls for help, medical staff failed to respond. “We informed the doctors and nurses, but no one came,” said Suman Das, Supriya’s husband.

The family was prevented from entering the ward when Supriya’s condition worsened. The next morning, they found her dead on the floor in a pool of blood.

Suman Das accused the nurses of being preoccupied with their phones and alleged that bribes were common for assistance. “If you give them two or three hundred rupees, they will help you,” he claimed.

Supriya’s mother demanded justice, stating, “My daughter screamed for help, but the nurse was too busy with her mobile phone.”

The incident has raised questions about hospital accountability and management. Protesters are calling for immediate dismissal and punishment of the staff involved.

This tragedy adds to the growing criticism of major referral hospitals in the state. Public attention is now focused on Chief Minister and Health Minister Dr. Manik Saha to address these allegations and prevent future incidents.
