A newly married woman, Kajali Deb, tragically took her own life just nine months after her wedding, following a family dispute in her marital home. The incident took place on Friday night at the Nayapara area on Pragati Road in Dharmanagar.
According to the deceased’s husband and in-laws the incident happened when an argument erupted between Kajali’s husband, Biswa Das who is a teacher at Nayapara Higher Secondary English Medium School and his younger brother Bipra Das. The situation escalated when their father Birendra Das intervened and allegedly insulted Kajali.
Failing to cope with the emotional distress caused by the insult, Kajali retreated to her room where she tragically ended her life by hanging herself with her own clothing. As soon as the family members noticed her they promptly brought her to the North Tripura District Hospital in Dharmanagar in the early hours of Friday but the attending doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
As the deceased’s parents Partha Sarathi Deb and Shipra Deb learned about the incident they were broken into tears by the loss of their only daughter. “Kajali was a sensitive soul,” her mother said, struggling to hold back tears. “We can’t believe she’s gone.”
Meanwhile, local police have stated that the deceased’s body will be released to the family following a post-mortem examination on Friday. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the young woman’s death with a focus on the family dispute that preceded the tragic event.
