Tripura: Gonda Twisa Victims Receive Unexpected Support From Transgender Group

In an inspiring display of compassion and social responsibility, a group of transgenders came to the aid of displaced families in Gonda Twisa formerly known as Gandacherra located in Dhalai District. This act of kindness challenges societal prejudices and highlights the often-overlooked humanitarian efforts of marginalised groups.

The crisis in Gonda Twisa began on July 12 when hundreds of families were rendered homeless due to local unrest. These families have since been residing in a refugee camp at Gandacherra Higher Secondary School and struggling to meet their basic needs.

Responding to this dire situation a group of transgender individuals including Puja Kayastha and Lata Pal visited the camp on Friday. They brought with them clothing for women and children, purchased with money they had collected through their daily earnings.

“We may be seen as outcasts but we understand the pain of being marginalised, these families need support, and we’re here to show that we’re all part of the same community.” said Puja Kayastha.

The group’s efforts have garnered attention and praise from local residents and officials alike. Their actions serve as a poignant reminder that compassion knows no gender or social boundaries.

“This gesture from the transgender community is truly heartwarming and it shows that humanity transcends societal labels and prejudices.” said a senior citizen.

The transgender individuals expressed their intention to continue supporting the displaced families, stating they were deeply moved by the plight of those affected.
