President Draupadi Murmu honored the bravery of CRPF Commando Sambhu Roy by giving his parents the Kirti Chakra award on July 5. Sambhu Roy was a brave soldier who gave his life for the country. He was a member of the 210 Cobra Commando unit of the CRPF and hailed from Bhagyapur village in North Tripura.

Sambhu was born on June 18, 1990, and joined the CRPF in 2015. He was the youngest of three siblings and his parents, Dwijraj Roy and Anjali Roy, are proud of his service. Sambhu’s father remembered that his son came home for a 20-day leave in March 2021 and then went back to duty. He spoke to his father for the last time on April 2 before going on a mission to catch insurgents in the Tekalguda jungle.

Sambhu and his team fought bravely, but he was fatally injured in a bomb explosion. He died on April 3, 2021, along with 21 other soldiers, including eight from the Cobra unit. The insurgents were armed and dangerous, but Sambhu and his team showed great courage.

The President gave the award to Sambhu’s parents in a solemn ceremony. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and other dignitaries attended the event. Sambhu’s family has built a temple in his memory and will install a marble statue of him soon. They have also preserved his memories in their home, which was built with his earnings from his government job. Sambhu’s sacrifice will never be forgotten, and his bravery will inspire others to serve the country.
